Sherwood River House is a collaboration with architecture studio Bligh Graham. The existing traditional style house was transformed into a light filled space full open to the beautiful natural bush setting alongside the Brisbane River.
Understanding and working with the depth and character of the clients extensive art collection was foundational to the interiors. From the beginning of our working relationship it became clear that when the client was talking about one of the artworks, it was as if a well loved family member were being discussed. Careful consideration of the ideal location for these treasured pieces laid the groundwork for the feel of each space. Colour palettes for each area were selected to highlight the artwork, and then new and existing furniture and decorative objects were curated to complement these.
Careful integration of lighting, both gallery and feature, also came under the purview of the design team. The finding of a new language based around the clients well loved art and furniture pieces has resulted in a unique home that speaks of the people who live their, their forebears and the rich culture of contemporary Australian Art and design.
